It may sound simple, but the way your CV is presented makes a world of difference! Keep it clean, professional, and easy to read. Use clear headings, bullet points, and plenty of white space. Remember, first impressions count!

This is your chance to shine! Write a brief, compelling summary of who you are, your teaching philosophy, and what you bring to the table. Make it personal and passionate – let your enthusiasm for teaching leap off the page! Please do not refer to yourself in third person!

Detail your teaching experience, highlighting key responsibilities and achievements. Use action verbs and quantify your successes where possible.

List your qualifications, including your degree, teaching certifications, and any relevant CPD (Continuing Professional Development). This shows your commitment to professional growth and staying current in the field.

Schools are looking for teachers who can connect with students and staff. Include a section on your interests or hobbies that reflect your personality and how you might contribute to the school community. From our experience, the lack of preparation on safeguarding questions/answers has let people down in the past. Schools take this very seriously, so familiarise yourself, practise your responses, ensure you discuss safeguarding policies, your commitment to student welfare and showcase how you have resolved safeguarding issues in the past.

Highlight your teaching experience with specific examples. Talk about your successes, positive impacts you’ve made and discuss how you’ve overcome any challenges.

Use differentiation in your lessons to cater for all abilities, this will also show case your subject knowledge. Ensure you are always engaging with students to keep them focussed to achieve the lesson objective.

Talk about your ongoing professional development and how you stay current with educational trends. This shows your commitment to growth. Discuss progression opportunities.

Be friendly and professional with everyone you meet, from the receptionist to the headteacher. First impressions matter!

Thank the hirer for their time and the opportunity to interview and shake hands; if you feel comfortable - ask for feedback. Constructive criticism will only help you improve.
